Taller-Invernadero, Machachi – Ecuador / al borde – Pascual Gangotena (2006)

Él requiere un refugio para llenar sus cuadros con el potente reflejo de la naturaleza; Ella, uno para resumirla en un invernadero. Él es el sustento de su familia, Ella, la pasión, la ternura y la ilusión.

Para Él, un taller que se convierta en un espacio de inspiración y abstracción, una burbuja desde la cual observar la naturaleza y plasmarla en sus cuadros. A su vez este taller se convierte en un pedestal sobre el cual se ubica el invernadero de Ella. En su interior, el invernadero compila una selección de flora y se convierte en un lugar de contemplación de la inmensidad del paisaje.

Dos atmósferas contenidas en membranas de cristal: La correspondiente al taller emerge desde el suelo de piedra y tierra hacia el espacio de vegetación y cielo. La del invernadero se posa sobre el pesado taller y vuela entre nubes y brisa de páramo.

El taller es una burbuja suspendida entre muros de piedra y tierra. La distancia existente entre muros y piso, con respecto a la burbuja, aísla al espacio de toda posibilidad de absorber la humedad del páramo. Además, los primeros rayos de sol calientan un sistema radiador que eleva la temperatura del colchón de aire. Este aire caliente ingresa en el taller volviéndolo confortable. Por la tarde, es la fachada principal la que recoge el calor del sol, almacenándolo en la parte maciza del piso del taller e irradiándolo durante la noche.

La caja superior, en cambio, cumple con su función de invernadero.

Por estar implantado en la zona rural de Machachi, en un predio de difícil acceso, sobre los 3.500 m.s.n.m., lo apropiado fue utilizar en la construcción, la mayor cantidad de material del lugar: tierra, piedra y madera de pino y eucalipto.

Atelier-Greenhouse

He requires a shelter to express the powerful reflection of nature in his paintings. In the other hand. She needs a greenhouse to summarize the diversity of that nature. He is the foundation of the family. She is tenderness, passion and hope.

An atelier, a place for inspiration and meditation for him, a bubble for observing and painting the surrounding landscape. Meanwhile, this workshop becomes a pedestal on which her greenhouse is placed. It collects a selection of flora and becomes a place to contemplate the endless landscape.

Two environments contained in crystal membranes: the atelier one rises from a base of ground and stone toward the vegetation space and sky. The greenhouse sits on the heavy mass of the workshop and flies through clouds and moorland wind.

The atelier is a bubble suspended between stone walls and rammed earth. The existing space between walls, ground and bubble, protect the space from absorbing the humidity of the moorland. Additionally the first sun rays heat a radiator system that increase the temperature of the air gap. This heated air enters the space making it thermally comfortable. In the afternoon the main façade absorbs the sun heat, saving it in the solid floor of the workshop releasing the heat during the night.

The upper box, otherwise, just fulfills its role as greenhouse.

The project is located in a rural zone of Machachi, in a hard access site, over 3.500 meters over sea level. So the appropriate decision was to use principally materials of the place: ground, stone, pine and eucalypt wood.
